Experimental Demonstrations in the high voltage facility – Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences’ contribution to the 5th Zittau Culture Night was a huge success!
Jazz and lightning in the high voltage facility? This may sound confusing at first, but it came together to create a successful event at the 5th Zittau Culture Night. Drawing on various experiments from the history of electricity and their reenactment in the high voltage facility at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in Zittau, the university band “Adhoc” performed jazz pieces that complemented the theme, providing a musical finishing touch—and at times, a completely new perspective of the experiments. The event amusingly demonstrated that the art of making music harmonizes perfectly with the art of experimentation. Skillfully illuminated by spotlights, the high voltage facility revealed an almost glamorous side that evening. And even Halloween made an appearance during the final experiment. By this point, at the latest, it became clear just how enthusiastically the presenters had prepared the HSZG’s contribution to the 5th Zittau Culture Night. The event was led by the head of the High-Voltage Engineering Department, Prof. Stefan Kornhuber. He was assisted by his colleagues, Mr. Rüdiger Cervinka and Mr. Frank Mattausch. Over the course of two sessions, the numerous interested visitors were able to experience the technology, the music, and the experiments in a variety of colorful displays.
