At Home in My Hometown
Short film about love of home: Theresa and Albrecht can't imagine life in the big city.
Theresa Herwig and Albrecht Rink studied at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. In the short film “hier_bleiben: At Home in My Homeland,” they talk about their love for Upper Lusatia.
Young people, in particular, often want to live in a big city. For Theresa Herwig and Albrecht Rink, that wouldn’t be for them—they love their hometown. The short distances, the University where you’re not just another number, the beautiful nature. After graduating from high school, both made a conscious decision to stay in Upper Lusatia.
Theresa studied Housing and Real Estate Management at the Zittau campus. “After seven hours of lectures, I just had to get out, get some fresh air, and go horseback riding. I lived in Leipzig for five months during my work placement semester. It was a nice experience, but just not my thing.” Theresa has her own horse, with which she enjoys taking day trips into the Zittau Mountains; she also goes trampolining or cooks with friends. And when she starts to feel cooped up in Zittau, she heads to Dresden to shop or go to concerts.
Albrecht Rink lives in a half-timbered house in Olbersdorf and is originally from Eibau. He graduated from the HSZG four years ago. “After graduation, I submitted applications for jobs all over the region and also had offers from Dresden and Leipzig. Sure, I probably would have made more there. But that’s not my top priority.” Back home, Albrecht has everything he needs: family and friends, mountains and lakes for long bike rides and hikes, and, of course, the horses.
Both have found fulfilling work in the region. They’re certain they’ll stay here—where life is beautiful.
