In July, the department of computer science at the University of Applied Sciences in Görlitz (
) hosted the 2015 IT Summer Festival on the university’s campus in Görlitz. Theevent featured workshops for high school students as well as professional development sessions for teachers onthe topic of app development and web app development . Representatives from Görlitz-based IT companies were also in attendance; during a one-hour plenary session and discussion, they provided practical insights into the work of an IT specialist and answered questions from the students. In the afternoon, a workshop on JavaFX development was offered to students in the department in cooperation with Saxonia Systems AG. The declarative description of modern UIs and styling via CSS has long since ceased to be the exclusive domain of web technologies. With JavaFX as the successor to Swing, a mature UI technology is now available that enables the development of high-performance, maintainable, and visually appealing Java-based desktop applications. A wide range of effects and animations ensures that these applications make a strong visual impression. The workshop teaches the necessary skills in a beginner-friendly manner.
Then came the Robocup 2015 awards ceremony, and at the evening “get-together,” in addition to our guests and students, other professors from the university as well as students from the
Department of Computer Science (
) and
the Department of Business Computer Science (
)
