Mastering your studies together as a team

Mastering their studies together as a team—that was one of the goals of the “Personal and Team Development” workshop, which took place April 23–25 for new students in Master's degree programmes „integrated management systems“ at the International Meeting Center St. Marienthal (IBZ). Organized by the Career Services’ “Learning to Learn” project, this workshop was held for the second time since 2017 for students in the master’s program led by Professor Jana Brauweiler .

In addition to providing an intensive period of time spent together—and the resulting positive boost to the group’s ability to work collaboratively—the workshop also offered an intensive program designed to improve stress management, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. The workshop instructor, Johannes Marquard, introduced the so-called seven-step training in emotional competencies (TEK). The focus was on acquiring, recognizing, or mobilizing skills for appropriately handling challenges in academic and professional life.

In the process, the students learned skills designed to help them cope better with difficult situations in their personal and professional lives.

Furthermore, teamwork was fostered through cooking together in the IBZ’s kitchen under the guidance of project staff member and trained chef Sebastian Riedel. As a special highlight of the event, university professor and program founder Bernd Delakowitz played well-known folk songs during a convivial barbecue evening.

For future cohorts as well, this type of event offers an opportunity to become familiar with situations in everyday student life and personal development early on in their studies.
