Between the poles of tradition and modernity
On September 2, alumni of the engineering program visited HSZG. They received their degrees 30 years ago.
Thirty years after successfully completing their degrees (at what was then the Zittau University of Engineering), alumni of E 83/1 (Section E, now the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) gathered at the HSZG for a seminar group reunion. They navigated the tension between tradition and modernity both during their tour of the campus and while exploring Zittau and the surrounding area.
On campus, the new seminar rooms and laboratories in the reconstructed Building I made a strong impression, particularly the new laboratory hall. Other highlights of the tour included the high voltage facility and Building IV. Participants frequently shared memories and quickly delved into technical discussions. They listened with great interest to information about the diverse activities and opportunities in teaching and research.
The hike around Lake Olbersdorf and a tour of downtown Zittau showed that much has changed for the better, but there is still much to be done.
The gathering concluded at the DeZi-Bar (formerly D-Keller). Here, the day drew to a close with food, drinks, and guitar music.
The weekend concluded with high praise for the attractive university location and good wishes for the future, particularly for the engineering program.
