260 graduates and lecturers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the predecessor institutions of the Power Plant Engineering and Energy Conversion section of Zittau University of Applied Sciences and Zittau University of Technology took part in this meeting.
The graduate reunion was opened on 19.09.2015 by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. H.-J. Kretzschmar. The rector of the university, Prof. F. Albrecht, the head of the Zittau office of the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Mr. M. Schwarzbach, and the chairman of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences Association, Prof. R. Hassa, addressed the graduates. The Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. T. Zschunke, reported on the research activities of the university and the Dean, Prof. Kretzschmar, on the development of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering since the I Great Graduate Reunion in 2011. Afterwards, two graduates gave lively presentations describing their experiences during their studies, assessing their quality and sustainability and describing their path into professional life. In a poster presentation in the foyer of the Z IV building, the teaching and research activities of the university, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Metrology (IPM) and the Institute of Surface Technology (IOT) as well as the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU) were presented.
A tree christening ceremony was held in the university park to mark the occasion of the Great Alumni Reunion. A copper beech was planted to commemorate the II Great Alumni Reunion. The student council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offered drinks and barbecued food. The graduates and staff were very happy to take advantage of this.
The university buildings Z II and Z VII were open to the graduates for laboratory tours on Saturday. The opportunity to visit ten laboratories of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the IPM and the IOT was gladly accepted by our graduates in large numbers.
The evening event in the Westpark Center was attended by 260 participants. Cultural interludes were provided by the university band "Ad hoc", which had come together in this composition especially for this occasion, as well as the graduate Dr. Tatiana Salnikova, who surprised everyone with her spontaneous singing and dancing interludes.
The joint degree was rounded off on 20.09.2015 with a trip on the narrow-gauge railroad to Oybin followed by a hike up the Töpfer mountain with 80 participants.
