HSZG and Luban intensify cooperation

The Polish city of Luban is just a 30-minute drive from Görlitz. In recent years, a good partnership has developed between the local school, Zespol Szkól Ponadgimnazjalnych im. Adama Mickiewicza, and the department of computer science at the Görlitz Campus, and this partnership has now been expanded. To this end, Rector Prof. Albrecht and representatives from our faculties based at the Görlitz campus recently traveled to Luban in December. There, they were warmly welcomed by Director Marta Czarniecka and her team.

After signing the cooperation agreement, they took a tour of the spacious and modern school building and held discussions on the future implementation of the partnership. Some preliminary results include, for example:

• Department of Computer Science: occasional participation by Polish students in the Student IT Club
• Visit to HIT on January 12, Görlitz Campus: The department of computer science and the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies are developing special thematic programs that will be conducted in Polish.
• Collaboration with the Zittau faculties: The school administration has shown great interest in organizing the MINT Trail station activities for the school festival in March/April 2017 in Luban. Here, the faculties can also introduce themselves to interested parents during the parents’ evening.

Furthermore, consideration was given to ongoing programs for Polish students. Among other things, students could be prepared for the DSH exam (German language exam for university admission) through special language courses while still in high school. This would enable a smooth transition to college. These programs designed to deepen students’ German language skills could take place in both Görlitz and Luban.

Another topic was media literacy training for students, which could take place in the future, for example, in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Multimedia Center. HSZG officials look forward to further academic and cultural exchange with the ambitious team at the Adam Mickiewicz Upper Secondary School Complex.
