HSZG sets international standards
Renowned partners from industry and research in the field of energy technology met for the annual IAPWS conference.
In March, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences once again hosted a gathering of renowned partners from industry and research in the field of energy technology as part of the annual conference of the German National Committee of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS). The conference was organized and hosted by the “Technical Thermodynamics” department, which is based in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
As Dean of the faculty, head of the department, and simultaneously chair of this national committee as well as vice president of the IAPWS, it was a special honor for Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Hans-Joachim Kretzschmar to welcome the conference participants to Zittau.
The event, which was opened by the university’s rector, Prof. Dr. phil. Friedrich Albrecht, featured various technical presentations in the field of thermodynamics as well as a panel discussion for interdisciplinary exchange. The conference focused on procedures and methods for determining the physical properties of water and water vapor, as well as mixtures containing water, which are elevated to the status of international standards. The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences presented a newly developed method for the rapid calculation of material data in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
In addition, conference participants were offered an extensive cultural program showcasing the university’s location and the region. In conclusion, Prof. Kretzschmar emphasized the success of the conference and the significance of such events as an important step toward raising awareness of the expertise at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and better leveraging the associated potential. Opportunities for future collaborations were identified, thereby making a valuable contribution to Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the local economy.
