HSZG performs excellently
High satisfaction with study conditions and career entry: HSZG impresses in Saxony-wide comparison in graduate study
The results of the 4th Saxon Graduate Survey are now available and give the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) a good rating: In nearly all areas, graduates from the classes of 2019 and 2020 rate their studies at HSZG very positively. Looking back, they particularly highlight their high satisfaction with their choice of program, the exceptional quality of the learning environment, and a quick transition into the workforce.
Study experience is rated positively across the board
According to the online survey coordinated by the Center for Quality Analysis (ZQA) at the Technical University of Dresden (TUD), 83% of the HSZG alumni surveyed say they are, in retrospect, very or somewhat satisfied with their time as students at HSZG —a result that exceeds the average for all universities of applied sciences (HAW) in Saxony. Three out of four alumni would definitely study at HSZG again.
The HSZG also performs exceptionally well in terms of study conditions when compared to all other universities of applied sciences in Saxony. Particularly good ratings were given for the sufficient number of seats in classes / courses, access to IT services (email, internet, etc.), the atmosphere among students, and the rapport between students and faculty.
Successful Transition into the Workforce
The HSZG excels not only in the academic experience but also in the transition to professional life: The clear majority of graduates from the cohorts surveyed make a seamless transition from their studies to employment—this applies to 100% of graduates from cooperative or dual degree programs. The vast majority also rate the alignment between their coursework and their professional activities as very good. Approximately 77% of respondents say they are very or somewhat satisfied with their current professional situation.
We are very pleased with the consistently positive results of the 4th Saxon Graduate Survey. They impressively demonstrate that our graduates have fond memories of their time at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences—characterized by high satisfaction, good study conditions, and a successful start to their professional careers. I am particularly proud that so many of our alumni remain loyal to the region and are shaping their professional futures here. This strong feedback is, for me, both a valuable affirmation and an incentive to continue developing our university with passion and vision.
”Strong Regional Ties
Also noteworthy is the strong regional ties: About two-thirds of HSZG graduates began their first job in the Free State of Saxony—an indicator of the university’s close connection to the region and its appeal as a place to work and live.
The HSZG views these positive results as an incentive to continue ensuring the quality of its programs and to make targeted improvements, particularly in the areas of International Affairs and digitalization. The study also identifies room for expansion in certain degree programs with regard to opportunities for specialized and in-depth study.
The Saxon Graduate Survey has been conducted every five years since 2008 by the Center of Excellence for Education and Higher Education Research (KfBH) at the Center for Quality Analysis (ZQA) of the Technical University of Dresden (TUD). The survey covers key aspects of the student experience, skills development, entry into the workforce, current employment status, and regional mobility. The results of the 4th comprehensive study covering all participating Saxon universities are expected to be published on the TUD ZQA website by the end of August 2025.
