High-voltage technicians exchange ideas
The HSZG presented research results in four papers at the VDE / ETG symposium "High Voltage Technology".
The “High-Voltage Technology” symposium, organized by the Association for Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Information Technology (ETG), took place in Berlin from November 14–16, 2016. This year’s conference combined the previous ETG conferences on “Diagnostics of Electrical Equipment,” “Interfaces in Electrical Insulation Systems,” and “Insulation Systems Under DC and Mixed-Field Loads” into a single event. More than 290 experts from the field of high-voltage engineering, including manufacturers and operators of high-voltage systems, faculty and professors from Universities and colleges, as well as staff from testing and research institutes, took the opportunity to exchange new scientific findings and discuss them in lively conversations.
In over 130 presentations and posters, current research results from the fields of high-voltage equipment, materials/insulation systems, high-voltage direct current transmission, and much more were presented.
Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was represented by the Department of High-Voltage Engineering / Materials / Theoretical Electrical Engineering, headed by Prof. Dr. techn. S. Kornhuber, and the Department of Energy Systems, headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. U. Schmidt. Current research results were presented on the “short- and long-term insulating performance of polymeric solid insulators with macroscopic longitudinal interfaces,” on the “Evaluation of the extrinsic layer breakdown voltage of glass-cap insulators with a defined non-uniform silicone coating,” “Discharge behavior of long air spark gaps under lightning voltage,” and “From atmospheric correction to altitude correction for air spark gaps—background, correlations, and new approaches.”
Through active participation and the successful acceptance of papers for this conference, the Department of High-Voltage Engineering once again demonstrated the high national and international standing of research activities in the field of interfaces in electrical insulation systems at Zittau University of Applied Sciences/Görlitz, which is also made possible by many years of continuous collaboration with research partners from industry.
