Exciting conference in Argentina
Researchers from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science present current research results in Buenos Aires.
The “20th International Symposium on High Voltage Engineering” took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from August 28 to September 1. The conference was attended by over 360 participants from 40 different countries, including manufacturers and operators of high-voltage equipment, as well as staff and professors from universities and colleges. In over 300 presentations and posters, the latest research findings were presented on topics including electric fields, transient voltages, high-voltage and high-current testing methods, materials and insulation systems, monitoring and diagnostics, lifetime management of high-voltage systems, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technologies, and industrial applications.
The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was represented by the Department of High-Voltage Engineering / Materials / Theoretical Electrical Engineering, headed by Prof. Dr. techn. S. Kornhuber.
In a presentation, Stefan Kühnel shared his latest research findings on the external flashover behavior of glass cap insulators with a partial silicone coating. At the conference, Mr. Kühnel was able to demonstrate to the international audience that partially coating the insulators allows for material savings while maintaining a defined insulation capacity.
In addition, Dr. Stefan Kittan presented the current SMART-TR research project, “Condition Assessment of Power and Distribution Transformers in power engineering,” as part of a poster presentation. In doing so, Dr. Kittan succeeded in explaining the motivation, objectives, and proposed solutions to interested researchers. The numerous discussions at the poster session also yielded information and new ideas for the project.
The project “Condition Assessment of Power and Distribution Transformers in Power Engineering (Smart Grid – Smart Monitoring)” is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the “Research at Universities of Applied Sciences in Collaboration with Industry” (FHprofUnt) funding program (SC03FH026PB5).
