HSZG remains strong in research
The “Förderatlas 2024” shows that HSZG excels in research in both the engineering and natural sciences as well as the economic and Social Sciences.
On November 25, 2024, the German Research Foundation (DFG), together with the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the Stifterverband (SV), presented the “Funding Atlas 2024” in Berlin. The Funding Atlas provides information on public funding for research in Germany and has been published by the DFG every three years since 1997. The reporting period for the newly released edition covers the years 2020 through 2022.
Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has once again demonstrated its strength in research and third-party funding. Our university excels both in its traditional fields of engineering and the natural sciences—such as energy and materials research—and in the economic and Social Sciences, for example, in the areas of civic engagement and innovation research.
Two criteria and the HSZG’s rankings underscore this exemplarily:
- Among all German universities of applied sciences (HAW, FH), it ranks 20th —as a small institution—with 13.5 million euros in federal R&D funding for the years 2020–2022.
- Among all 442 listed colleges and universities in the Federal Republic of Germany, the HSZG ranks 28th for the year 2022 in terms of the share of third-party funding in the respective university’s total budget (expenditures). With a share of 28.4 percent, it is thus among the good 10 percent of all universities in Germany.
The university administration congratulates all researchers, as well as the supporting members and affiliates of our university, on these results and rankings. We are pleased that, over the past two years (2023/2024), members of our university have been able to secure new and high-quality third-party funded research projects, and we thank everyone involved.
