Our university lays the foundation for the awarding of a university teaching prize.
Over the past twelve months or so, the university management, support association and student council of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences have worked together to develop a concept for the university's own teaching award. The results have been incorporated into an award regulation for the teaching prize, which was approved by the Rectorate on March 18, 2015. The regulations form the formal basis for a prize worth 1,000 euros for special teaching achievements at the university to be announced and awarded for the first time this year and every two years thereafter.
Individual lecturers or groups of lecturers with above-average commitment and outstanding achievements in teaching can be nominated for the teaching award. All faculties and the university's central institutions are eligible to nominate candidates.
The official announcement of the first teaching award will be made in the next few days. A selection committee chaired by Vice President Education and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Christa Maria Heidger, will be responsible for evaluating the proposals and selecting the prizewinner based on defined criteria. The award will be presented during the enrolment ceremony on October 1, 2015.
The prize money is provided by the Förderverein der Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz e.V. . The association also awards around a dozen sponsorship prizes for committed students each year and supports the university with various initiatives.
The teaching award itself helps to ensure that teaching activities within the university are continually given the appreciation they deserve. It is intended to encourage teaching staff to continuously develop their teaching units and is therefore an important quality management tool at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
