HSZG students promote international literature exchange and open a BiblioboXX in Zgorzelec.
On June 18, 2021, the BiblioboXX was opened in Zgorzelec in cooperation with students of the HSZG and pupils of the DPFA Europrymus Zgorzelec. Around 30 people took part in the event.
All participants are part of the bilateral project, which aims to promote literary exchange both in the immediate Polish neighborhood and on an international level. The mini-library was inaugurated with an artistic program. In addition to musical contributions, the rector of the university, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, and the managing director of the DPFA, Katarzyna Hübner, also gave a speech. To express the solidarity, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kratzsch's speech referred to the treaty "on good neighborliness and friendly cooperation" concluded 30 years ago between Germany and Poland. Numerous book donations then brought the box to life with books.
The book box is intended to provide access to exciting books and at the same time relieve your bookshelf of books you have already read. The attraction is that you can become aware of books that you might never have discovered. There are already over 2,400 publicly listed bookcases in Germany, 78 of which are in Saxony. The "number of unreported cases" is likely to be much higher. There are no more precise figures for Poland.
"Special thanks go to INBAK (Institute for Sustainability in Education, Work and Culture) from Berlin, who provided us with the disused telephone box, which had previously been used as a book BoXX in Poznan, Poland."
The project is also of great importance for the social work course.
"This project is intended to set an example of how to set up district and community work," says Jürgen Mölder, lecturer in social sciences at the HSZG.
He is the initiator of the project, because one of the core fields of social work is community work, i.e. work across all social strata.
There are several mixed Polish-German working groups that take care of the individual tasks of the project. One working group, for example, looked for sponsors to guarantee successful and long-term funding. Another team organized the opening ceremony and the entire course of the event. There is a "Network and Carers" group to ensure that the box is not neglected and is supplied with book donations from libraries and bookshops.
The "Logistics and Design" group organized the transport and ultimately the installation at the location in close consultation with INBAK.
Another group: "PR and Public Relations" takes care of the Biblioboxx's internet presence on Facebook and Instagram as well as all other types of public relations work, including radio reports and newspaper articles.
All in all, it was a wonderful afternoon of a festive opening with great music and speeches.
