Görlitz builds on fast Internet

On December 21, 2016, six shovels broke ground in the frosty soil of Görlitz to mark the official start of construction on a fiber-optic connection between the HSZG Vogtshof dormitory and the university’s network. State funding is making this investment in “high-speed internet” possible for the residents of the Görlitz dormitory.

According to the operator of the Vogtshof, the 'Studentenwerk' (student union), this is also urgently needed, as the previous wireless connection for Internet access was no longer meeting the students’ increased demands. Instead of the previous 300 megabits per second, data will “flow” through the fiber at 1,000 megabits in the future, thereby significantly improving study conditions in Görlitz. And the connection is set to become even faster in the future. In addition, further infrastructure improvements are planned as part of this preliminary work.

At the Vogtshof dormitory, the 'Studentenwerk' (student union) currently provides 242 rooms for students in the immediate vicinity of St. Peter’s Church, within Görlitz’s Old Town.
