The ground-breaking ceremony for a fiber optic connection between Vogtshof and the HSZG network took place on 21.12.16.
On 21.12.2016, six spades plunged into the frosty Görlitz soil to mark the official start of construction for a fiber optic connection between the HSZG Vogtshof hall of residence and the university's network. Funds from the state are making such an investment in 'fast internet' possible for the residents of Görlitz's halls of residence.
According to the operator of the Vogthof, the Studentenwerk Dresden, it is also urgently needed, as the previous wireless connection for internet provision no longer met the increased demands of the students. Instead of the previous 300 megabits per second, data will 'flow' through the fibers at 1000 megabits in the future, significantly improving study conditions in Görlitz. And the connection is set to become even faster in future. In addition, further infrastructural measures are planned with this advance.
Studentenwerk Dresden is currently providing 242 rooms for students in the Vogtshof hall of residence in the immediate vicinity of St. Peter's Church in Görlitz's old town.
