Go East Generations

On March 25, a symposium of the Go East generations with German-Russian participation took place in Berlin.

On 25.03.2017, a symposium of the so-called Go East generations took place in Berlin. Former graduates of Soviet and Russian universities met with representatives of German and Russian universities, practice partners and other study-related institutions (e.g. DAAD) to discuss the development of academic cooperation.

By 1990, around 17,000 GDR citizens had studied at a Soviet university.

Since 1990, around 40,000 students from the FRG have been to Russia for full or part-time studies.

In addition to the possibility of studying (in the Master's area also possible in English), there are extensive research cooperations. Interesting cooperative study programs in the fields of energy technology, computer science and renewable energies were presented by the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University and the universities of Freiberg, Illmenau and Stralsund University of Applied Sciences. The State Electrotechnical University currently generates around 50 percent of its budget through practice-oriented third-party funded research.

In the area of research, the main focus is on cooperation in the field of computer science (hardware development, software development, data security) and the energy industry/energy technology (network security, virtual networks).

Various options for the organizational and financial support of doctoral projects were also presented. Up to 100 scholarships are to be provided annually by Go East Generationen e.V. in the future.

In the concluding plenary session, the discussion on the future economic and political development of the European Union and Russia as a partner or competitor naturally also took up a great deal of space.

The event took place under the patronage of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Germany, Mr. A.M. Grinin.

Of course, the event was also an opportunity to meet up with former fellow students.
