Matriculation ceremony

On September 28, 2016, the new students were ceremoniously welcomed to the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

The new students were warmly welcomed to the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences on September 28, 2016 as part of the matriculation ceremony. This year's event took place at the Landskron KULTurBRAUEREI in Görlitz. Numerous guests from politics, business, representatives of public institutions and companies, representatives of foreign and domestic partner universities, grammar schools, vocational school centers,  Altmagnifizenzen as well as members of the support association accepted the Rector's invitation.

This year, around 900 new undergraduate students were welcomed, including 190 foreign students from 26 countries. In addition, 70 foreign students began their language preparation for studying in Germany at the university's preparatory college. They come from countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Sri Lanka, India, China, Morocco and Tunisia. 

At the start of the academic year, around 3100 students will be enrolled at the university.
The Rector, Prof. Dr. Friedrich Albrecht, warmly welcomed the students and guests. In his remarks, he briefly discussed the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and its role in the Europeanization and globalization of the scientific landscape as well as its mission to be a regional driving force in knowledge and technology transfer.
The head of the council archives/city archives, Mr. Siegfried Hoche, was invited to give the keynote speech. He spoke skillfully about the history of Upper Lusatia and the inhabitants of the city of Görlitz in particular. 

Dr. Petra Zimmermann,  Head of the Office for Youth/School & Sport/Social Affairs, representing the Lord Mayor of Görlitz, and Christian Bäetz, representing the student body of the university, addressed the new students with words of welcome. They also wished the newly enrolled students every success in their studies.

Following this, the Rector and Dr.-Ing. Stefan Kühne, Head of Academic Administration and Head of the International Office, presented Ms Réka Schmieder (Hungary) with the German Academic Exchange Service Award for her outstanding achievements in the Master's degree course in Culture and Management.
Ronald Schmidt, First Deputy Chairman of the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences e. V., together with Dr. Kühne, presented Lenka Volfová (Czech Republic), a student on the Integrated Management Systems Master's degree course, with the "Prize for Special Professional and Social Commitment". 

By the way: For all those who would still like to study, there is still the opportunity to register for one of the available places at the Admissions Office until October 15.
