The chemistry show lecture on December 14 at the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences thrilled the crowds.
On December 14, 2016, the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences once again hosted its annual chemistry showcase lecture. A total of 300 students, employees, professors and many more accepted this invitation. There was plenty of reason for this, because this time there was no normal lecture as we know it. Chalk on the blackboard or a projector presentation with formulas and theoretical facts? No. Explosions, fireworks and a masterful theatrical performance taught the masses about the exciting side of chemistry.
Under the direction of Dipl.-Chem. (FH) Matthias Jeschke and Dipl.-Chem. (FH) Martin Hanisch, the A-Team had to be called in to help this year. They had to solve a difficult case with chemical cleverness and rescue the chancellor of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences who had been kidnapped by Santa Claus. The A-Team, including: Hannibal, Murdoch, Face and B.A., was also more or less supported by Elsterglanz and David Hasselhoff.
Color games, flying table tennis balls and glow sticks were only the harmless experiments of the evening. Smoke, fire, lightning and explosions shook the auditorium in House IV. In the end, the Chancellor was "rescued", but every happy ending also has a bitter aftertaste, as Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Klaus Seibt, who took part in numerous guest appearances, will be entering his well-deserved retirement next March. Matthias Jeschke expressed his special thanks to him and all the other participants at the end of the event and dismissed the enthusiastic audience to the foyer for mulled wine, punch and anecdotes.
