Successful degree of the course "Assistance Camera, Light & Dolly" and new course offered by the Saxon Film Academy in Görlitz from May 3, 2023.
With its unique approach to training and continuing education for film professions, the new Saxon Film Academy in Görlitz offers an initiative to train much-needed professionals for the industry and, through its extensive network of contacts in the film industry, actively support its graduates as they enter the film workforce.
The 7-week “Camera, Lighting & Dolly” course has now been successfully completed in the Film Academy’s new, spacious facilities, and all course participants will receive a certificate from Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
The newly occupied seminar rooms at Konsulplatz, centrally located in Görlitz, now offer 260 square meters of space. Two studios, modern seminar rooms, a team room, a kitchenette, and more create a pleasant and inspiring work environment with plenty of space for hands-on practice.
The course "Camera assistance, lighting & Dolly"
The Assistance Camera, Light & Dolly course imparted a broad knowledge of the technical aspects of professional film work. With the generous support of the film equipment provider Ludwig Rental Leipzig, it was possible to work extensively in the practical seminars on professional camera, light & dolly technology as used on large film sets. Arri Alexa, Zeiss Compact Prime CP3 PL, Angenieux Zoom Optimo Style, Dolly GFM Quad, Astera Titan LED Tubes, Arri SkyPanel, M18 HMI were just some of the rather exotic-looking names of the film equipment that the course participants learned to use. Seminars on the basics of camera and lighting technology, safety on the film set, sustainable film production and team communication complemented the practical exercises.
The SFA lecturers, who travel to Görlitz from Leipzig, Berlin, Babelsberg and Hamburg, all have many years of practical experience in feature film productions and have in-depth knowledge, which they pass on to the course participants with great skill and enthusiasm. For example, Hamburg head lighting technician Lisa Maria Müller, who worked on the Hollywood blockbuster "Matrix Resurrections" with Keanu Reeves, among others. Or the award-winning Berlin Director of Photography Bernd Fischer, who is internationally renowned for his image and lighting design for the "Babylon Berlin" series and many other films.
The Film Academy offers a series of public workshop discussions with particularly interesting lecturers.

The Film Academy’s next “Film Production Assistant” course begins on May 3, 2023.
Applications are now being accepted.
It also consists of a 6-week seminar followed immediately by an exam week. Upon successful completion of the exam, the course concludes with the Film Production Assistant certificate.
It covers the following topics: basic film knowledge; areas of film production—including production coordinator, production manager, and line producer; project management; financing; budgeting; copyright law; team development; and sustainability management.
To enroll in a course at the Saxon Film Academy, you should have a passion for film and be flexible. A high school diploma or prior college coursework is not required.
The course fee is 1,770.00 euros. Various funding and financial aid options are available.
The Central German Media Fund (MDM) covers up to 100% of the course fee for participants from Central Germany.
Seminars on the “Film Set Design Assistant” Career Path Starting in Late August 2023
In late summer and fall, the Saxon Film Academy will offer individual seminars lasting two to four days on the career field of “Film Set Design Assistant.” The exact seminar schedule will be posted on the Film Academy’s website shortly. We expect to have top-notch instructors for these seminars as well.
Another course, “Camera & Lighting Assistant,” will be offered starting October 23, 2023.
Based on the same concept and featuring similar content as the very successful course that recently concluded, this course will provide a broad understanding of the technical aspects of professional filmmaking, with a focus on the practical use of film equipment.
Applications for this highly sought-after course are now being accepted.
The course fee is 1,770.00 euros. Various funding and financial assistance options are available.
