Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and ITMO University in St. Petersburg are adopting the training and examination model for the HSZG's TÜV certification courses.
What do HSZG, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, and ITMO University St. Petersburg have in common? Students at all three universities have the opportunity to earn TÜV certifications, which are highly sought after in the job market.
At HSZG, thanks to a cooperation agreement with TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH, students have been able for many years to earn certification as management representatives as an additional qualification as part of their degree program. This certification includes specialized qualifications that are in high demand in the job market: Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001, EMAS), Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001), Energy Management Systems (ISO 50001), and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001).
This training and examination concept developed by the HSZG has now been successfully transferred to the aforementioned partner universities.
Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences
Since the summer semester of 2018, a student-led initiative at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences has been bearing fruit. Building on the long-standing collaboration between Prof. Delakowitz and Prof. Brauweiler of the HSZG and Prof. Schneider from Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, Magdeburg students were able, for the first time in the summer semester of 2018, to earn the TÜV certificate “Environmental Management Systems According to ISO 14001 and EMAS” at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. This has led to an intensive collaboration that now also includes the ISO 45001 health and safety management system certification.
TÜV Certifications Boost Career Opportunities
Thanks to the specialized exam preparation provided by Prof. Schneider, students at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences can now earn these degrees at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG). To do so, students complete extracurricular modules and exam preparation courses. As the experiences of the 2018 graduates show, these certificates improve students’ chances of entering the workforce. Consequently, the program has generated significant interest among students. In the summer semester of 2019, 43 students from various disciplines at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences participated in the Environmental Management certificate course. The students appreciate the practical experience and real-world relevance of the program and would like to see it expanded to include the topic of Quality management.
The supervising professors, Prof. Brauweiler and Prof. Schneider, appreciate the students’ interest and commitment. Both welcome further collaboration between the universities. The professors plan to expand the cooperation to include suitable project initiatives and publications in the field of management systems.
ITMO University, St. Petersburg
Building on the good experience with Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, the program expanded its target audience to include international students. Since 2017, there has been close cooperation and a dual-degree program between the Master's degree programmes “Integrated Management Systems/Integrated Management” at HSZG and “Industrial Ecology and Cleaner Production” at ITMO University. In the future, Russian students at ITMO University will also be able to earn the TÜV certificate for “Environmental Management Systems according to ISO 14001” at HSZG.
Training for Female Instructors
To create the necessary framework, Prof. Brauweiler trained the Russian female instructors in English as part of a TÜV course in May 2019 and administered the aforementioned exam to them. They are now qualified to train their students according to this training concept. The TÜV exam itself will then be administered for the first time in May 2020 on-site in St. Petersburg by Prof. Brauweiler and representatives of TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH.
