One university, two cities, three countries

First joint welcome brochure of the cities of Görlitz and Zittau, the Studentenwerk Dresden and the HSZG.

For the first time, the cities of Zittau and Görlitz, the Studentenwerk Dresden and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are jointly publishing a welcome brochure for first-year students.

Why should you study at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences? What is important for prospective students is a suitable range of courses combined with high teaching quality, a modern infrastructure and good support. But of course, a young person who is starting a new phase in their life at university is particularly interested in life in their university town. This is often also a new home town, as only 16% of applications for a place at the HSZG now come from East Saxony.

This is where the new welcome brochure for prospective students comes in. The special thing about this project is that it was created in cooperation with the Zittau city administration, Europastadt Görlitz-Zgorzelec GmbH, which is responsible for Görlitz location marketing, the Studentenwerk Dresden and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The joint project was realized by Redaktions- und Verlagsgesellschaft Neiße mbH. The brochure is intended to be sent to all applicants with their admission documents and make it easier for them to decide to study in our attractive university region.

What is it like to live in Zittau and Görlitz? What cost of living can I expect? What about leisure activities? These are just a few of the questions that the brochure answers with insider tips from students and atmospheric photos. Marie, for example, recommends her favorite pastry shop in Zittau to anyone with a sweet tooth. Lara, sitting on the roof, raves about student life in shared flats in Görlitz.

"Creating the brochure was fun because we worked closely with our students and got lots of insights into real student life. Above all, we noticed one thing: anyone who has decided to study in Zittau and Görlitz is happy about it and would recommend it to others," summarizes Antje Pfitzner, Head of Public Relations at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

In addition to authentic information, the brochure has an extra feature: the middle section contains discount vouchers from regional providers. HSZG students can cut out the coupons and redeem them on presentation of their student ID. The initiative for the joint project came from Kai Grebasch.

"I'm delighted that we've managed to get our colleagues from Görlitz on board with the project alongside the student union. This means that both locations of our university are now compactly presented in one booklet," says the press spokesperson for the city of Zittau.

One university, two cities - the reversible nature of the brochure underlines the fact that students at the HSZG are offered more. Depending on which side you open the brochure from, you will either be welcomed to Görlitz or Zittau. The contents reveal what has long since become commonplace for students: they use and enjoy the advantages of living in the border triangle!

For the welcome brochure, photos were taken with students of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in the cityscape of Görlitz as well as Zittau, at Lake Olbersdorf and at the climbing camp of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in Jonsdorf. The photographer Gabriel Moreno is himself a graduate of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and was delighted to return to his old haunts for this production.
