Diploma thesis successfully completed

An example of cross-faculty / trans-faculty cooperation in the field of manufacturing and measurement technology

In late February, Mr. René Meusel, a student in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, successfully defended his Diplom thesis on the topic“Design of an Adaptation for the Electrical Measurement of MEMS-Based Pressure Sensors on Printed Circuit Boards Under Pressure and Temperature Loads.” Mr. Meusel completed his Diplom thesis at Silicon Micro Sensors GmbH in Dresden. The company is involved, among other things, in the development, design, and production of pressure sensors for the automotive sector.

As part of his Diplom thesis, he developed an adapter for pressure sensors used in adjustment and calibration. Mr. Meusel succeeded in developing an adapter that, compared to the adapter used previously, can process more sensors in a shorter amount of time.

The diplom thesis falls within the fields of measurement and manufacturing technology. Accordingly, it was supervised jointly by Prof. Förster of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Prof. Kratzsch of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Thanks to this cross-faculty / trans-faculty supervision, Mr. Meusel was able to draw on the respective areas of specialization of his academic advisors during his Diplom thesis.

The diplom thesis is a good example of the interdisciplinary student education practiced between the two faculties of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
