University members in discussion with ASIIN e.V. expert group.
On January 8 and 9 and on June 26 of this year, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) welcomed a group of five experts - consisting of three university lecturers from Germany and abroad, a professional practice representative and a student representative - and a representative of the office of the accreditation agency ASIIN e.V. at the university locations in Zittau and Görlitz. As part of the formal assessment procedure of the so-called system accreditation, the assessors must determine whether the HSZG has an effective quality management system (QM system) in the core area of teaching and learning. The basis for the assessment is a detailed self-description of the university's specific structures, instruments and procedures, as well as interviews with the university management, the management and individual employees of the faculties, the administration, selected central institutions and students.
The talks at the Zittau campus in January 2019 focused on the structure of the overall system for the qualitative development of degree programmes, teaching and the organization of studies and examinations. The topics ranged from strategic aspects such as the profiling of the HSZG and its degree programs, to the individual procedures of internal and external evaluation with the participation of students, graduates, professional practice, etc., to instruments for ensuring high-quality teaching (further training in higher education didactics, etc.) and needs-based support and advisory services for students.
The discussions at the Görlitz campus in June 2019 focused on selected degree programs from the six faculties of the HSZG and on the degree program review process for the internal assessment and accreditation of the degree programs. In addition, conceptual, structural and procedural developments since the first inspection in January of this year were discussed and acknowledged.
In the further course of the system accreditation procedure, the HSZG expects the written accreditation report from the expert group in mid-August 2019. The ASIIN e.V. Accreditation Commission for QM Systems is expected to make the accreditation decision in mid-October 2019 on the basis of the expert report and a statement by the HSZG in this regard. The aim is to receive the Accreditation Council's "System Accredited University" quality seal.
