At the last EBSILON user conference in Wiesbaden, the HSZG was honored as a "Power User" of the EBSILON program.
At the recent EBSILON user conference in Wiesbaden, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was awarded the title "Power User" of the EBSILON program. Prof. Hans-Joachim Kretzschmar accepted the award on behalf of the university. EBSILON Professional is the leading software in Europe for calculating energy technology systems. It is developed and distributed by STEAG Energy Services GmbH Essen.
There are many reasons for the award. At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, students on the Energy Technology course use this program as part of the basic subject "Technical Thermodynamics III - Process Thermodynamics". This use as early as the 4th semester is exemplary for universities throughout Germany. In the main course of study, EBSILON forms the basis of the course "Simulation of Energy Technology Systems", in which the prospective engineers work on complex and practical tasks. In addition, students use EBSILON to work on complex tasks in their diploma, bachelor's and master's theses. These are often part of current research projects.
At the Institute for Process Engineering, Process Automation and Measurement Technology (IPM) at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, EBSILON is used in current research and development work in the field of energy technology. On this basis, STEAG and the IPM are cooperating in the further development of EBSILON for the simulation of transient, i.e. time-varying, processes in energy technology systems.
A further collaboration between the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and STEAG involves the calculation of the thermophysical properties of the working fluids in EBSILON. The working fluids used in energy technology are mainly steam and water, but also air, combustion gases and refrigerants as well as other gas and liquid mixtures. Since 2000, EBSILON has been using the algorithms and material value calculation program libraries developed at the university's Department of Technical Thermodynamics.
Last but not least, the award as "Power User" is the result of the presence of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences at the annual EBSILON user conferences. Colleagues from the university have been represented at these conferences over the past 15 years with specialist lectures, poster and software presentations.
The result of the cooperation between the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and STEAG Energy Services is modern training using the latest software used in energy technology companies worldwide. Knowledge of such engineering tools provides students with advantages for their future careers.
