"The HSZG in the world" on its 25th anniversary

Summertime is travel time! This coming Friday, June 23, 2017, starting at 4:00 p.m., we’re bringing the world right here to our Zittau campus! To celebrate the “25th Anniversary of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences,” a summer festival will take place on the grounds in front of the Peter-Dierich-Building. With its diverse cultural program, the event promises to be not only colorful and multicultural, but also varied and exceptionally musical.

From Latin American rhythms to Hungarian accordion music to African jerk dance—spanning a total of four continents, the day’s program highlights represent the well over 100 partnerships that Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences maintains worldwide.

Following welcoming remarks by Rector Albrecht, Ms. Menzel from the Staff Council, and Ms. Lehman from the Student Council, the journey around the world begins with our Czech neighbors and their traditional brass band music, after which our Polish friends Ariana Grzechnik and Kamil Kowal from the “Ametyst” dance school in Luban take the stage with their dance performance. Next, Semjon Butyrin from Russia will present accordion music from Hungary, before the program makes a stop in Asia. The young Iranian Masoud Talebi Charmchi will perform pop music from his country. Next, we’ll cross the Pacific to Latin America. Berenice will get us moving with salsa and merengue. The journey continues across the Atlantic to Africa—more specifically, to Cameroon—for a jerk dance number by Wilde Dilane Tougnia Tchomgui and Fardin Ramezani Hashjin. From there, the journey heads north again toward home. As the grand finale, KURTL will present his Upper Lusatian songs, bringing this little musical world tour to a close.

During the breaks, DJ Riccardo will spin world music, and there will be a few short stories about our university’s international relationships and projects.

The summer festival is open to all staff, students, friends, and supporters of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. Their families are also warmly invited to enjoy the program and sample the food and drinks at the stands. Younger guests can let off steam on the bouncy castle or get creative with face painting.

You can participate via the link below until today, Thursday, June 22, at 6:00 p.m., for a chance to win a small prize. Winners will be drawn from all correctly submitted answers on June 23, 2017, and announced during the event. HSZG surprise prizes await, which will only be awarded to winners who are present. If the winner of a prize is not present, a new winner will be drawn.
