The HSZG at the integration fair
On March 6, the 1st integration fair of the district of Görlitz took place in the Löbauer exhibition hall.
International College Applicants
Under the motto “Living and Settling In the Görlitz District,” the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was one of over 60 exhibitors at the 1st Integration Fair of the Görlitz District.
New immigrants and/or volunteers and full-time staff working in the field of migration were able to learn about topics such as leisure & clubs, government offices & agencies, work & careers, life & housing, and education, and network with representatives from these areas.
The Student Services & International Affairs division provided information in the “Education” section about study opportunities at our university and advised a large number of prospective students—including those from Poland, Syria, and Iran—on admission requirements and the application process for international applicants.
Religion, Migration, and Integration
In addition, the Institute for Transformation, Housing, and Social Spatial Development (TRAWOS) participated in the fair with an information booth dedicated to the institute’s project “Religiously Sensitive Integration Culture in Eastern Saxony—Exploration, Testing, Design , funded under the Free State of Saxony’s “Integrative Measures” state program, under the motto “Religion as a Resource for Integration?” In addition to numerous networking discussions with other stakeholders at the fairgrounds, interested visitors could pick up recommended reading on the topics of religion, migration, and integration.
In addition to the information booths, the fair featured a very interesting supporting program, which included presentations on the Görlitz district’s integration concept as well as the MiMi project (With Migrants for Migrants).
All in all, the Integration Fair was a very successful event that drew an exceptionally large number of new immigrants to the district.
Outlook
A repeat of the fair seems feasible. The Görlitz district is currently reviewing the feedback forms from exhibitors and guests of the integration fair to determine this.
The MiMi project will soon be visiting the university to offer a workshop for international students on the topic “The Health Care System Explained in Your Native Language.”
