On Tuesday, October 27, 2015, the president, Prof. Friedrich Albrecht, hosted a gathering for the Germany Scholarship recipients and their sponsors. All scholarship recipients and nearly all sponsors accepted the invitation to this event. Right at the start, the Rector presented the sponsors with certificates and thanked them for their commitment, which in many cases has spanned many years.
This year, the sponsors were once again TRUMPF Sachsen GmbH in Neukirch, Deutsche Kreditbank (Dresden branch), Sparkasse Oberlausitz Niederschlesien, Vattenfall Mining & Generation (two scholarships), AUKOM e. V., GWT-TU Dresden, and the Friends of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences e. V. For the first time, WT Energiesysteme participated in the Deutschlandstipendium program by awarding two scholarships. Member of the Bundestag Michael Kretschmer and members of the state parliament Dr. Stephan Meyer and Octavian Ursu jointly provided one Deutschlandstipendium scholarship. Through their commitment, the donors of the Germany Scholarship aim not only to support particularly talented young people but also to offer them prospects for the future in the region.
As a result, it was possible to award eleven Germany Scholarships to students from all faculties during the 2015–2016 academic year. The rector presented the scholarship recipients with their certificates and award letters. This year, the following students can look forward to receiving a Germany Scholarship:
Konstantin Bönisch, KIA Mechanical Engineering program; Sameer Datt from India, Master’s program in mechatronics; Kelly Hein, Housing and Real Estate Management program; Fabian Hilger, KIA Mechanical Engineering program; Iryna Kravchenko from Ukraine, studying Business Administration; Martin Lohse, studying chemistry; Julia Rocho, studying KIA electrical engineering; Thomas Schäfer, pursuing a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and energy technology; Helen Schröter, Social Work program; Anastasia Shalagina from Russia, Economics and Languages program; and Peer Wenke from the Industrial Engineering program.
After a general round of introductions, which was very interesting for both the scholarship recipients and the sponsors, a lively discussion developed among the participants. The scholarship providers and their recipients got to know each other better. In addition, initial offers were made for internships at the companies.
For example, Dr. Harry Thonig, Managing Director of TRUMPF Sachsen GmbH, offered his scholarship recipient, Sameer Datt, the opportunity to get to know his company during an internship. Mr. Ullrich Neumann did the same; he invited Iryna Kravchenko to contact him regarding an internship. Similar offers came from Ms. Iris Bongen of DKB’s Dresden branch, Prof. Fritz-Jochen Schmidt of GWT-TU Dresden, and Andre Herzberg of WT Energiesysteme.
All scholarship recipients view receiving the Germany Scholarship as an honor and a personal recognition of their academic achievements. It also allows them to focus more on their studies and eases their financial situation.
