"The chimney warns"

On March 17, 2016, the exhibition “The Chimney Serves as a Reminder!” opened at the Hermann-Heitkamp Building on the Görlitz campus. The exhibition will be on view on the third floor through May 12, 2016.

Sixteen panels chronicle the history of the Kamenz-Herrental concentration camp satellite camp and the creation of a memorial at the historic site.

The exhibition, organized by the Friends of the “Kamenz-Herrental Concentration Camp Satellite Camp Memorial” Association, e.V., spans more than a decade of research and coming to terms with the history of the satellite camp, leading up to the opening of the redesigned memorial to the public in 2011.

The focus is on commemorating the people who were interned there and, in many cases, lost their lives. The memorial’s chimney serves as a somber reminder of the cremation of the victims and, at the same time, as a warning.

All university members and the general public are cordially invited to visit the exhibition at the Hermann-Heitkamp Building in Görlitz.
