The HochN project enters its second phase

In the first phase, the HochN consortium of universities focused on embedding processes for the development, implementation, and establishment of sustainability at German universities. The project was designed to combine practical and academic objectives, with the overarching goal of pooling, organizing, and further expanding expert knowledge and process expertise on the topic in order to promote sustainable development at universities. Working in project pairs, the partners address the following areas of action: reporting, governance, teaching, research, operations (HSZG and TUD), and knowledge transfer.

The result of this project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is six application-oriented guidelines (beta versions) that have been available on the HochN website since October 2018.

The guides are intended to serve as a low-threshold entry point for promoting and reporting on sustainability at universities. The examples of best practices and case studies collected by the consortium serve both as documentation of sustainability activities within the consortium and as inspiration for universities that wish to (further) strengthen sustainability-related initiatives within their structures.

During the continuation phase of HochN (11/2018–10/2020), the guidelines will be tested, sustainability measures will be advanced at the participating universities, additional practical examples will be collected, and these will subsequently be compiled into a comprehensive report that takes into account cross-cutting areas and interfaces.
