HSZG promotion awarded a prize
Cornelia Müller of the Faculty of Social Sciences has been awarded the 2023 Mättig scholarship.
The Dr. Gregorius Mättig Foundation in Bautzen awards an annual scholarship to support the work of emerging scholars (Bachelor, Diplom, master’s, and doctoral theses and/or their publication) in the research, documentation, preservation, and presentation of the cultural and historical heritage of Upper Lusatia and Bautzen (including, indirectly, the history of Gregorius Mättig and his foundations). The scholarship is intended to directly support the scholarship recipient’s academic work, the publication of their work, or the continuation of their academic career. On September 24, 2023, two scholarships in the amount of 1,200 euros were awarded for the first time. From the numerous applications received, the Foundation Board selected the works of Cornelia Müller and Lisa Hallex as the recipients. The awards ceremony took place on September 24, 2023, during a festive church service at St. Petri Cathedral in Bautzen.
Cornelia Müller from Görlitz has been awarded the scholarship for her doctoral dissertation, “Fire and Firefighting in the 18th and 19th Centuries: The Case of the Upper Lusatian Cities of Bautzen, Görlitz, and Löbau,” as well as Lisa Hallex (TU Dresden) for her Master's thesis on the preservation of the park in Ohorn as a historic garden. Ms. Müller is a student in the master’s degree programme in management of social change at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her doctoral dissertation, based at the Department of History at the University of Erfurt, is supervised by Professor Dr. Susanne Rau (Erfurt) and Professor Dr. Raj Kollmorgen (Zittau/Görlitz).
