Chemical Christmas event

On December 12, 2018, the traditional Christmas lecture in chemistry, organized by the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences, took place in the large lecture hall in Zittau. Under the theme “A Terribly Nice Family Goes to College,” the students, led by M.Sc. Christian Trapp and Diplom-Chem. (FH) Matthias Jeschke, delighted an audience of approximately 300 people.

A chemical-themed play was performed in which the shoe salesman Al Bundy and his terribly nice family found themselves in Zittau. His two children, Kelly and Bud, enrolled at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, so Al had to open a new shoe store in Zittau. Numerous chemical experiments were integrated into the play, which were prepared by former and current students in the chemistry degree programme. The audience was treated to a variety of humorous dialogues paired with small explosions, flashes of light, burning shoe racks, colorful effects, and an impressive closing fireworks display. In addition to brief impromptu appearances by audience members, the Chancellor of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences—Ms. Karin Hollstein—and the Dean’s Advisor for the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences—Ms. Anke Zenker-Hoffmann—also had guest roles.
