Cordless screwdrivers, jigsaws, and wood on one side; music, summer, and sunshine on the other. How do they go together? In the collaborative workshop at Campus Open Air 2015: almost uniquely good! From May 26 to June 3, every weekday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., there will be drilling, screwing, and sawing in the parking lot of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in support of the COA. With the two workshops—BoB (Build Our Bar) and DoC (Design Our Campus)—concept creator and workshop coordinator Robert Gröschel has outlined the thematic framework and purpose of the workshop: “In the Build Our Bar workshop, for example, we’re creating useful items for the Campus Open Air and the campus itself. The main goal is to build a row of bars for the main area that meets the standards of traditional beer carts. The bar will be constructed in such a sustainable way that it can be reused for future events in the city and will be easy to transport.”
Those who want to express their creativity in a more individual way can, for example, help design the after-show floors at DoC or independently showcase objects on the grounds that would otherwise receive very little attention. With this opportunity, everyone—young or old, whether skilled or trained in crafts or not, student or not—has the chance to participate directly in the preparations for this year’s Campus Open Air on June 4 and 5.
This year, the organizers are venturing into organizing a multi-day event, which will kick off in the evening hours of June 4 with an interactive singer-songwriter night. Musicians from the region will perform their songs following a set by the Polish acoustic band Chrzan. The volume of the applause (and thus the audience!) will decide who leaves the stage as the winner. Admission is free that evening!
These are 2 of a total of 6 fantastic program highlights. If neither the workshop nor the opening event is interesting enough, your only option is to come to the Campus Open Air on June 5. Come on by—it’s worth it! We look forward to seeing you!
