Nationwide Mathematics Olympiad makes guest appearance at HSZG

Over 100 participants from the administrative district of Dresden calculated, constructed and tinkered in Zittau.

On February 28 and 29, the third round (state round) of the Dresden Administrative District’s nationwide Math Olympiad took place in Zittau. This year, the Christian-Weise-Gymnasium Zittau was entrusted with organizing the event.

In collaboration with our university and other partners from the region, the more than 100 participants were provided with good conditions for the two challenging invigilated (written) examinations. On Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, students in grades 5 through 8 worked on a total of 6 and 8 problems, respectively. They calculated, constructed, and tinkered with great dedication.

A big thank you goes to our university’s Technical Administration for their support, as well as to Prof. Kratzsch from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Institute for Process Engineering, Process Automation, and Measurement Technology. He welcomed the participants to the closing awards ceremony in the university’s well-attended main auditorium. Thanks also go to Prof. Kornhuber (also from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) and his team for the impressive presentation in the high voltage facility for the 7th-grade students. The excellent cooperation with the Christian-Weise-Gymnasium in Zittau deserves special mention.
