Exemplary scientific exchange at the HSZG

Once a year, organized by the Prorectorate for Research, researchers from the HSZG meet to present the so-called “Landtag projects” (also known as “SMWK projects”).

This time, the diverse and inspiring event took place on June 21, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It spanned the academic disciplines at HSZG: Engineering, social science, and natural science researchers presented their projects briefly and in a way that was generally accessible to all. What all projects have in common is that they are funded by research grants from Saxony’s state universities of applied sciences, which are approved by the state parliament and allocated by the SMWK in collaboration with the SAB.

Particularly memorable were the interdisciplinary questions and discussions, which quickly brought to light common methodological approaches and opportunities for collaboration.

First, four presentations were given, each of which, including the discussion, lasted approximately 15 minutes. The topics covered included the identification of genetic causes of infertility in plants, the synthesis of specific active compounds that could become significant for the pharmaceutical industry, the reduction of pollutant emissions from lignite-fired power plants, and social support measures to address challenges faced by people with specific disabilities.

Afterward, four additional projects were briefly presented and discussed via posters. Particularly noteworthy was the discussion on computer science and its role as an interdisciplinary field within the natural and engineering sciences.
