Building history of the historic Zittau weaving school

The Zittau History and Museum Association (Zittauer Geschichts- und Museumsverein e.V.), the Zittau Municipal Museums, and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences cordially invite you to a public lecture on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. in Building ZI at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Hochwaldstr. 2, Seminar Room 0.38.

Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Menzel ( Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences), project manager for the restoration work on the former weaving school (now Building ZI at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences), will discuss the architectural history of the building complex of the historic Zittau weaving school in his lecture. Inaugurated in 1898 and built on the site of the former Pfortmühle mill after its demolition, the Weaving School subsequently became a major educational institution in this field for Zittau—a key center of the textile industry—with an influence that extended far beyond the city.

Following the lecture, there will be a guided tour of the renovated part of the building complex, during which participants will, of course, also view the large stained-glass window depicting St. George slaying the dragon , created in 1923 by Richard Schlein at the Zittau Art Workshops.

Access to the building is from the courtyard side on the basement level; the room is located on the ground floor—that is, one flight of stairs up from the basement level on the left-hand side. Admission is free.
