Building history of the historic Zittau weaving school

All interested parties are invited to attend Dr. Menzel's public lecture on February 24.

The Zittau History and Museum Association, the Zittau Municipal Museums and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences cordially invite you to a public lecture on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 5 p.m. in House ZI of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Hochwaldstr. 2, seminar room 0.38, .

Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Menzel (Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences), project manager of the restoration work on the former weaving school (now House ZI of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences), will reveal the construction history of the building complex of the historic Zittau weaving school in his lecture. The weaving school, inaugurated in 1898 and built on the site of the Pfortmühle mill after its demolition, was subsequently an important teaching institution in this field for Zittau as an important location for the textile industry with an impact far beyond the town.

The lecture will be followed by a guided tour of the renovated part of the building complex, during which the large stained glass window depicting St. George slaying the dragon from the Zittau art workshops of Richard Schlein from 1923 will of course also be on display.

Access to the building is from the courtyard side on the plinth floor, the room is on the first floor, i.e. a staircase above the plinth floor on the left.  Admission is free.
