Car-free and differently mobile ...

As is the case every year, a Sunday in September—currently September 23—will encourage people to leave their beloved cars at home. More and more cities are observing and organizing one or more days during the so-called “Car-Free Period” to explore how things might be more relaxed when it comes to traffic, health, and the environment.

In Görlitz, residents are once again invited to join a Sunday bike tour as an alternative. While last year’s tour took participants to places in and around our city to discover the habitats of certain birds, this year’s route will pass by “Young Places.” “Young Places” are those created by or for young people, such as the “Einer für alle” association at the Haus der Jugend, the park railway, the university, the Wartburg Youth Center, Café HotSpot, Ca-Tee-Drale, Meeting Point, Rabryka, Camaleon, Carife, and the Jakobspassage.

The ride will start at 2:00 p.m. between the train station and the District Office—participants must have a bike in good working order. Caritas staff will provide Sunday coffee and cake at the “Junges Wohnen” facility at Blumenstraße 36/37, where unaccompanied migrant youth live and receive support.

The route is about 10 km long and takes 1½ hours.
