Award for the "Sustainable Book BoXX"

The teaching project won an award in a sustainability competition. The box changes location on 13.10.

On October 9, the teaching project "Sustainable Book BoXX for Görlitz" was awarded a prize in the "University" category of the competition "Do something today - learn for the future - 100 projects for a sustainable present to preserve a future worth living". Jürgen Möldner, the lecturer responsible for the practical student project, accepted the award at the 11th International Conference for Sustainable Regional Development through the Use of Renewable Energies at the Solar Center Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Wietow. "The tenor of the submission was the BücherboXX as a teaching object and didactic concept for lively, practice-oriented teaching with a sustainable effect of knowledge transfer for project development and project management," he said, delighted with the recognition. The patron of the competition was Dr. Till Backhaus, Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Consumer Protection of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

On September 1, the social work students involved in the student project "Sustainable Book BoXX" at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences opened the "WanderbücherboXX Europa" at Café Central on Berliner Straße in Görlitz, as shown reported here was reported here. On next Friday, October 13,the BücherboXX will be moved to Wilhelmsplatz. The project group invites all interested parties to stop by.

The BücherboXX stood for six weeks at Café Central, on the corner of Berliner Straße and Hospitalstraße in Görlitz. The response from the public was largely positive. The students of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences project are very satisfied with the obvious acceptance of the free mini street library by the citizens of Görlitz.

Now, however, it is time for a change of location. On Friday, October 13, the BücherboXX will move to Wilhelmsplatz. There, too, it will be ceremonially opened with a program by the students, including free coffee, tea and home-baked cake. All interested parties are cordially invited and are welcome to bring unused books to swap and fill the BücherboXX. It can then be visited until December 1, 2017, before it is taken back to its developers in Berlin, the Institute for Sustainability in Education, Work and Culture (INBAK). Until then, the project group will be researching how Görlitz citizens and visitors use it so that subsequent students can create their own, permanent BücherboXX for Görlitz.

For anyone who has not yet seen or used the "WanderbücherboXX Europa" - it is a converted and visually redesigned telephone box that is used for the free and open exchange of books. "Take a book, bring a book, read a book" - this is the motto of the BücherboXX, which is accessible to everyone.

Anyone interested in supporting the project or who has questions can contact the students by email: projekt-buecherboXX(at)hszg.de. Further information can be found on the project's Facebook page under "Görlitzer BücherboXX".
