Occupational safety at the HSZG

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG), in collaboration with the Saxony Workers’ Compensation Fund, has developed a customized training program for deans, heads of central departments and institutes, department heads, and their deputies. The program was aimed at managers who bear responsibility for occupational safety and health. The goal of the training is to impart practical knowledge and empower participants in their responsibility for maintaining the health of employees.

The training was conducted by Dr. Goltz from the Saxony Accident Insurance Fund together with Mr. Schulzensohn, the occupational safety specialist at the HSZG. Topics covered included the legal foundations of occupational safety and health at universities, the organizational structure for occupational safety and health, and procedures such as risk assessments, occupational health care, and cross-faculty / trans-faculty processes.

Dr. Goltz from the Saxony Workers’ Compensation Fund highlighted the unique nature of the format: “This training is a pilot program within Saxony’s universities.”

With this program, the HSZG is sending a clear signal in support of active occupational safety and health and is actively supporting managers in fulfilling their responsibility for the safety and health of their employees and students.

The training has already been successfully conducted twice in 2024 and will be offered again on March 7, 2025. A total of 32 people have participated so far. “We’re happy to continue offering the event to other interested parties, ” says Uta Ebertz from the FH-Personal project.
