"My name is Aneta Lafantová, I'm 20 years old, and I'm from the Czech Republic, from a small town northwest of Prague. I came to Germany right after graduating from high school, in May 2016. My career goal was—and still is—to become a translator for German and Czech. To get a feel for the German language, I decided to study in Germany. I also wanted to see what it was like to live abroad.

Before starting my regular studies, I took the DSH course at the HSZG 'Studienkolleg'. There, I spent a semester studying German intensively. That was good preparation, and I also made some great friends there.

I’m currently in my second semester, studying economics and languages —specifically Czech and German—in Görlitz. I’m very satisfied with my program. I wouldn’t want to change a thing. I also can’t complain about Görlitz as a location—it’s a beautiful, compact little town that offers wonderful recreational opportunities.

I’m also happy about my student job, which I was offered by the University. My job is to help international students get started with their studies and to conduct surveys.

What is the best thing about Germany? The variety of cultures that come together here makes you feel as if you’re traveling all over the world.”
