At the 5th International Conference of the ACC on Friday, June 5, 2015, representatives from the universities in the ACC presented and discussed current and important topics in development planning related to the International Affairs of higher education. The event welcomed special guests of honor: Dr. Gottfried Zeitz, former German Consul General in Wrocław, and Ms. Eva Reinöhlová, Consul of the Czech Republic in Dresden.
The lecture by former Consul General Dr. Zeitz on the topic “The Importance of Scientific Cooperation for European Development, Specifically in the Neisse Euroregion” was particularly well-received. Scientific cooperation and European development are inextricably linked. Beginning with a historical overview of recent European developments at “Building Europa,” Dr. Zeitz praised the work of the ACC, stating: “The ACC is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of cooperation in applied science and research within the Euroregion. In doing so, it forms a regional nucleus at the heart of the continent that connects both internally and with the rest of Europe, thereby promoting the process of European unification.”
Furthermore, the internationalization strategies currently being developed at all ERN universities were presented. In line with the aforementioned objective of coordinating cooperation among ERN universities within the ACC, a wide variety of activities were presented and discussed. In addition to the global orientation of the academic programs offered by ERN universities, a particular focus is placed on Central and Eastern Europe.
Such priorities include, among other things, the further development of Neisse University, the coordination and establishment of new English-language degree programs—particularly at the Technical University of Liberec—and the consolidation of educational programs at the ERN universities.
