CIGRE, the International Council on Large Electric Systems, hosts the “CIGRE Session” conference in Paris every two years. This year, it took place from August 26 to 31 at the Palais des Congrès convention center. More than 3,600 delegates from over 98 countries accepted CIGRE’s invitation to Paris to discuss current and future challenges in power generation and transmission. The latest research findings and developments—for example, in the fields of transformers, overhead lines, and high-voltage direct current transmission—were presented via posters and publications and discussed in panel sessions. In addition, over 300 companies showcased themselves and their products at a technical exhibition. Nearly 10,000 experts took advantage of this opportunity for discussion and the exchange of information.
The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was represented, among others, by Stefan Kornhuber and Stefan Kühnel, who presented in their papers methods for evaluating hydrophobicity transfer and the erosion and creep current resistance of polymeric insulating materials. Furthermore, both participated as experts in several CIGRE working groups, including those on dynamic hydrophobic properties (D1.58), arc resistance (D1.72), methods for the dielectric characterization (D1.59) of polymeric insulating materials, and surface damage to polymeric insulating materials (D1.62). In addition to the poster sessions, a key component of the CIGRE session is the discussion sessions of the Study Committees: · Study Committee D1 (Materials and Emerging Test Techniques): Test method for evaluating hydrophobicity transfer, Stefan Kornhuber · Study Committee D1 (Materials and Emerging Test Techniques): Accelerated material optimization regarding resistance to surface discharges, Stefan Kühnel · Study Committee A2 (Power Transformers): Contribution to machine learning technologies in health index determination, Stefan Kornhuber, Stefan Kittan The next CIGRE session will once again take place at the Palais des Congrès in Paris from August 24–28, 2020.
