COST (Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a European program that strengthens international networking and cooperation between scientists. Funding is provided for networking activities such as working groups, conferences, workshops, short scientific exchanges, training schools, travel expenses and joint publications. A COST Action usually runs for four years. The program places particular emphasis on the inclusion of both young researchers and researchers from European countries that are weaker in terms of research and innovation. The next submission deadline for COST Actions is October 21, 2025.
Target group: Scientists from the HSCG and research institutions in the region as well as those interested in COST from industry and society
The aim of the workshop is to inform you about the opportunities and challenges of the COST program and to prepare you in the best possible way for an application, both in terms of content and form.
1:00 p.m. Welcome and Presentation (Dr. Gretel Wittenburg, ZEUSS)
--> Introduction to COST and COST Actions, the submission process, and the evaluation and selection processes
--> Tips and tricks for submitting proposals
--> Options for combining COST with other programs
2:00 p.m. Workshop: Brainstorming and initial structuring of COST Action ideas in working groups
--> Recommendation: Do you already have an idea for a COST Action? If so, please feel free to bring it along. A brief outline (topic, target audience, format) is also welcome. During the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to further develop these ideas (as examples).
3:30 p.m. Break and opportunity for individual questions for ZEUSS
4:00 p.m. Discussion and peer feedback on the COST Action ideas
5:00 p.m. End of the event
