About the event:

Queer individuals still encounter discrimination and a lack of knowledge within the healthcare system—with tangible consequences for their physical and mental well-being. In this session, Samson Grzybek (founder of QueerMed Deutschland) will provide insights into the challenges faced, as well as potential courses of action for queer individuals and their healthcare providers. The presentation will be followed by a group discussion on local experiences and possibilities, featuring *Gerede e.V.* (providing outreach counseling in the Görlitz district) and the *QueerPeer* project from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (TRAWOS Institute).

The discussion will explore the specific needs of queer patients and examine why psychotherapy, in particular, can be a space that offers protection—but also causes harm. Through an intersectional lens, we will look at how being queer overlaps with other forms of discrimination, such as racism or ableism, further complicating access to care. Beyond assessing the current situation, the focus will be on concrete options for action: for patients seeking to find appropriate, self-determined care, and for practitioners who wish to make their practice more sensitive to discrimination.
