The German Museums Association 's annual conference "Museums strengthen democracy" from May 4 to 7, 2025 in Chemnitz will focus on social change as a central theme - especially in its significance for museums as places of democratic education and cultural debate. Prof. Dr. Raj Kollmorgen will kick off the main conference on 5 May with a keynote entitled "Positioning: In the midst of transformation". In it, he will shed light on how social upheaval - particularly in eastern Germany - is affecting cultural institutions and what challenges and opportunities this presents for museums. The conference also offers a diverse program of lectures, discussion forums, young talent formats and workshops on democracy, participation and transformation processes in the museum context. It sees itself as a platform for exchange, networking and critical reflection on the role of museums in a changing society.
