Shaping sustainability together: Sustainability Council

Where: Building Z IVb, Room 1.01, in Zittau

Sustainability has been a defining feature of the HSZG for many years. Through numerous initiatives, projects, and teaching formats, it has been—and continues to be—actively practiced, further developed, and promoted in society. We now wish to consolidate this commitment even more strongly and advance it together.

As Vice President for Education and Sustainability, I am very pleased to initiate the establishment of the new Sustainability Council. This body is anchored in the Office of Education and builds on both the valuable work of the former Climate Council and the current activities of the Sustainability Working Group. The latter began in the summer of 2025 by resuming strategic deliberations on consolidating our university’s sustainability activities.

With the Sustainability Council, we aim to create a space where ideas can converge, initiatives can be launched, and concrete changes can be implemented. At the same time, we are committed to incorporating new perspectives and further strengthening awareness of sustainability across all areas of our university.

Sustainability should not merely be the focus of individual projects, but should be reflected in teaching, academic programs, operations, and knowledge transfer, thereby becoming a natural part of our university’s daily life. To this end, I cordially invite you to get involved. Whether you already have experience in the field of sustainability, would like to contribute your expertise, or are simply motivated to make a difference— your perspective is valuable. The Sustainability Council thrives on the diversity of the people who shape it.
