Are you between 13 and 27 years old? Then take this chance to help shape your city and your campus!
On Monday, June 10, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can participate in the creative workshop “An Early Shift for My Görlitz: Shaping Saxony as a Hub for Science” to share your ideas and visions for the future of Görlitz as a center of science. Together, we’ll shape the transformation in the areas of studying, living, working, and leisure.
“How should the living environment, the university, recreational opportunities, and urban society be designed to encourage you to study in Görlitz? What would need to change for you to see your future in Görlitz?” These and other questions are at the heart of the event.
After engaging workshops with researchers and future-oriented innovators from business, culture, and communication, you’ll present your ideas in a pitch to a high-profile jury, including Minister President Michael Kretschmer and Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow.
Theme Table: “Future Campus: Studying Better Together—Digital, Practical, and Sustainable”
Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will be participating with a thematic table led by Vice President for Education and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil. This table is supported by Prof. Dr. Falk Maiwald and Sebastian Benad (M.A.) from the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies, as well as Christian Tiller and Robert Viertel (M.A.) from the strategic university initiative “Zukunftslernort Oberlausitz” (ZukLOS).
Theme Focus: How do we design a future-proof degree program that combines digital technologies, hands-on learning, sustainability, social responsibility, and mobility?
Key points and questions:
- Flexible and Creative Learning Spaces: How can learning spaces be designed to promote creativity and flexibility? Which digital tools and platforms can enrich everyday learning and improve the quality of teaching?
- Practical Learning: How can classes / courses be made more practice-oriented to better prepare students for the job market of the future?
- Sustainability in Campus Life: What measures can be taken to make the campus more sustainable?
- Social Responsibility and Community: What measures can strengthen social cohesion and community on campus?
- Mobility: How can student and staff mobility on campus be improved?

Participation is free, and meals will be provided. You’ll receive a certificate of participation and can get an excused absence from school for the project.
In order to find answers to these questions and get young people excited about the upcoming transformation, the Saxon Agency for Structural Development (SAS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Science's campaign "SPIN2030. Saxony as a Land of Science" campaign and the HI Lusatia! initiative, the Saxon Agency for Structural Development (SAS) has developed an event entitled "An early shift for my Görlitz. Shaping Saxony as a Land of Science".
