Digital Workspace (for teachers): Using and promoting the potential of digital skills in teaching

Digital skills have been an important topic in higher education long before the emergence of ChatGPT in late 2022, but they have become even more significant since then. As cross-cutting competencies within “Future Skills” that affect all areas of life—including the modern workplace—digital competencies have become an indispensable part of the curriculum. This requires new approaches to integrate them with existing teaching concepts and subject-specific learning objectives. With the ever-accelerating changes in the demands of the workplace, it is particularly essential to dynamically align teaching with topics such as AI literacy, data security, and media literacy.

However, promoting and integrating digital competencies into the course of study often presents educators with a variety of challenges. The increasing use of digital media and applications in our daily lives makes it clear that it is particularly important not only to be able to use them but also to reflect critically on them.

The goal is to harness the diverse potential of digitalization in a good way. This workspace is dedicated to clarifying relevant terms and subject areas, as well as the opportunities presented by digitalization. This course allows you to choose from a wide range of offerings and thus tailor your continuing education experience specifically to your own goals and needs. Here’s what you can expect:

- Introduction and overview of the topic area: Competence/Future Skills/Digital Competence

- An assessment of your own level of digital competence and opportunities for development

- Suggestions for integrating digital literacy into your own teaching using proven instructional concepts

- Development of your own concepts and specific offerings for students to build competencies in a subject-specific context

What is a Digital Workspace?
In open workshop formats, all stakeholders involved in teaching at the partner universities (see below) can work on the design and development of digital media-supported teaching and learning scenarios. By drawing on a wide range of expertise and engaging in peer exchange, they not only expand their individual skills but also directly implement a concretely planned project in the field of digital higher education. This creates immediate added value for the instructors themselves and for the universities as a whole.
