The chemistry of natural fiber-reinforced plastics

In the 2025–26 school year, the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences will once again open its digital lecture hall to high school students. A series of online lectures will cover key topics in chemistry relevant to the curriculum—presented clearly by experienced teachers and supplemented with current references to research. This provides a dynamic insight into exciting questions and methods in modern chemistry. School teachers are also cordially invited!

” Natural fiber-reinforced plastics represent an innovative class of materials that combines environmental responsibility with modern technology. The event will introduce suitable natural fibers and their chemical properties and demonstrate how polymers and the circular economy come together to create sustainable materials. Examples from research at HSZG will illustrate the role of chemistry from fiber extraction through to recycling.
