Presentation:CO₂ —A Small Molecule, a Big Impact

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Jens Weber will speak about the impact of CO₂ as a greenhouse gas and share insights from our research on reducing CO₂ emissions during the production of new materials. There will be an opportunity for discussion.

Prof. Weber teaches a wide range of classes / courses at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG), including “Physical Chemistry for Life Sciences (Fundamentals),” “Special Aspects of Physical Chemistry” with a focus on electrochemistry, water treatment, and radiochemistry, as well as various modules on polymer and colloid chemistry.

In his research, Prof. Weber focuses on the application of porous materials for gas separation and water treatment, as well as on the fundamentals of porosity characterization using gas adsorption. Other research areas include polymer chemistry, particularly in the field of materials and surface modification, in collaboration with the ZIRKON Institute at HSZG. He also conducts research on natural-fiber-reinforced composites as part of the LaNDER³ project.

His latest ERDF project, “Evaluation of Recyclable Materials for Electrical Engineering” ( ), addresses the use of silicones in high-voltage insulators and the improvement of this successful plastic, which will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Musical program with heart and mind:
Audiolyse (Felix Rothe)

Felix Rothe works as a laboratory engineer in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and, under the band name Audiolyse, has been passionately creating German-language acoustic music since 2006. His songs speak to both the heart and the mind.

Tour of the LaNDER³ Natural Fiber Research Center

Afterward, there will be an opportunity to tour the Natural Fiber Research Center in the LaNDER³ Hall.

The LaNDER³ network focuses on living and producing at a 21st-century industrial level using what nature provides— natural fibers, (bio)polymers, the circular economy, and renewable energy—which the researchers see as our future.
To this end, they have established a dynamic network rooted in the Lausitz region, with the goal of holistic material and technology development centered on natural fiber-reinforced plastics (NFK).

A tour of the technical center provides concrete insights into LaNDER³’s practical research work.

"Heart in your hand" campaign period

The event is part of a 14-day campaign period of the "Herz in der Hand" festival. Numerous protagonists show how rich the Upper Lusatia region is in creativity, culture, science, courage and commitment.
