Chromatography - a process for separating mixtures of substances and identifying substances

In the 2025–26 school year, the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences will once again open its digital lecture hall to high school students. A series of online lectures will cover key topics in chemistry relevant to the curriculum—presented clearly by experienced educators and supplemented with current references to research. This provides a dynamic insight into exciting questions and methods in modern chemistry. School teachers are also warmly invited!

This time:
Chromatography is one of the central separation and analysis methods in chemistry. Following an introduction to its history, significance, and fields of application, the basic structure of chromatographic systems will be presented. In addition, various techniques such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC), gas chromatography (GC), and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) will be explained and illustrated using practical examples.
